There are many types of cables. The most basic ones are low-voltage cables and high-voltage cables. How should the two be distinguished? Some people say 250V, some people say 1000V, how to distinguish between high-voltage and low-voltage? So, let's learn how to distinguish between low-voltage cables and medium-and high-voltage cables!

How to distinguish the difference between low voltage cable and medium and high voltage cable

There are many types of cables, which are basically divided into low-voltage cables andHigh voltage cableHow should the two be distinguished? Some people say 250V, others say 1000V, how to distinguish between high voltage and low voltage? So, let's learn how to distinguish the difference between low voltage cables and medium and high voltage cables!

According to China's industry standard electrical safety regulations, electrical equipment is divided into two categories: high voltage and low voltage. High voltage: equipment to ground voltage above 250V. Low voltage: equipment to ground voltage below 250V. According to the 2009 power line safety regulations, electrical work is divided into high voltage and low voltage two categories.

High-voltage electrical equipment: voltage level above 1000V; low-voltage electrical equipment: voltage level below 1000V;

Generally, high-voltage cables refer to 3 to 10 kV lines; low-voltage lines refer to 220/380 volt lines.

Know the voltage level

The common voltage levels in China's power industry are 220 volts, 380 volts, 1000 volts, 10000 volts, 35000 volts, 110000 volts, 220000 volts, 500000 volts, etc. It is generally believed that 220 volts and 380 volts are low voltage, mainly for household electricity; above 35000 volts are high voltage, mainly for power transmission. In between is medium pressure. It must be pointed out that it is very dangerous to touch high-voltage wires or carry out live working offline.

Discrimination of low-voltage cables

Outdoor low-voltage cable has several obvious characteristics:

1) Basically supported by cement rods, which are very low, usually below 5 meters.

2) The reason why the wires are the same thickness and the number of wires is a multiple of 4 can confirm that the line-to-line voltage of the wire is 380 volts because low-voltage wires generally use a three-phase four-wire system. With these features, the phase voltage is 220 volts. (The phase voltage is the line-to-ground voltage, and the line voltage is the voltage between the two lines)

Discrimination of medium and high voltage cables

Medium and high voltage circuits also have obvious characteristics:

1) If the thickness of the wires is the same, the number of wires is a multiple of 3. It is almost certain that the wire is 10000 volts, because the transmission wire generally uses three-phase transmission, with these characteristics.

2) Assuming that the wire thickness is different, the number of thick wires is a multiple of 3, and there are only 2 thin wires, which are located at the highest point. This is because thin wires are not used for transmission, but for lightning protection. Also known as lightning wire. If you have these characteristics, you can confirm that the wire is a high-voltage line.

Further identification of high-voltage cables

In order to improve the transmission capacity, high-voltage wires generally use split wires. Simply put, it is the original one-phase line. Now, some harnesses replace the original one. Knowing this, it is easy to judge the voltage level of the wire.

There are not many opportunities for us to contact high-voltage cables on a daily basis, but we must be careful in the face of medium and low-voltage lines. The number of people who die each year from electrocution is still small. Therefore, no matter what kind of cable you use, be sure to use a national standard cable with quality assurance.
