Difference between overhead line and cable

Overhead lines are wires, usually bare wires, that are erected in the air through towers and concrete towers. Although the overhead line is cheap, it occupies a large channel area and is the main line style at present.

Overhead line laying conductor, "lightning wire", tower insulator, hardware, etc.

wires: electrical transmission

Lightning line: the lightning current into the earth, to protect the power line from the impact of lightning

Tower: Wire and Lightning Wire Support

Insulator: maintains insulation between the wire and the tower

Hardware: support, connection, wire and lightning protection, insulator connection and protection.

Generally speaking, high-voltage lines use overhead cables, and high-voltage lines are very high on the ground. In order to reduce costs, if you are close to underground or buildings, you should choose insulated cables. The electrical voltage flowing on the high-voltage line is very high, the current is very large, it is easy to generate heat, it can burn the insulation, and even pierce the insulation.

Under high pressure, the original insulating materials (such as rubber, plastic, dry wood, etc.) also become conductors and cannot play an insulating role.

The surface of the high-voltage wire is not wrapped with insulation, hung on the tower, and contact with the tower, may leak electricity. In order to prevent this phenomenon, high-voltage wires are always hung under well-insulated porcelain bottles to insulate the high-voltage wires from the iron tower.

overhead lines and cables of distinction:

Overhead line: uninsulated exposed metal conductor, installed in the air, fixed on the tower with an insulator string, air insulated. Main advantage: low cost. The disadvantage is that it takes up a lot of land resources (route corridors) and affects the cityscape of the city.

Power line: Use insulating media to separate metal conductors from the outside world and place them on the floor or underground. The main advantages are that the attachment is relatively convenient, occupies less land resources, and does not affect the city appearance. The disadvantage is that the cost is too high. As for safety, the industry currently believes that due to materials and manufacturing processes, the safety of overhead lines is better than that of power lines, and the failure rate is much lower than that of power lines.

Requirements for use of wiring

Wiring construction requirements: The wiring is from the pole of the overhead line to the overhead conductor of the first support point of the building.

High and low voltage wiring shall not cross the railway. Low voltage wiring cannot pass near high voltage leads.
